Learn Jazz Standards for more Advanced Players

In this class we will be working through both Jazz and Pop/Rock standards using a systematic approach. Each standard is broken down into sections and you get to see me create the arrangement live. This is a great way to "get in my head" to see how I create my arrangements.

Each standard will take about 2-3 sessions to complete.

We complement each standard with The Confident Improviser™ improvisation lessons so you not only learn how to play the song...but also improvise over it.

What are Academy credits?

With Academy credits, you can take classes that are outside of your membership level. For example, if you are an Academy-level student and want to take a Premier-level class, you can use (1) class credit to take the class. Learn more about Academy credits here.

How can I attend the class if I do not have the correct membership level?

You can attend any class, regardless of your membership level, by purchasing Academy credits. Then, use your credits for the classes you want to attend. Each class = 1 credit. Coaching events can not be purchased using credits and are only available as part of a membership. This means you can attend a class using Academy Credits even if you do not have a membership to Jazzedge Academy.

Why can't I use class credits to attend coaching?

Group coaching is an incredible way to get feedback on your playing and make real progress. Students get to know one another and support each other. Having a student "pop in" for a session now and then changes the group dynamic, so we decided to only allow coaching sessions for members.

Do I need to register for an class?

No. You do not need to register for an class. However, registration guarantees you a slot. We allow 10 students to register for each class to lock-in their slot. Registration is also handy if you can not attend the class live. Note - not all classes allow registration. If the class allows registration, you'll see a register button on the class event page.

If I don't register, does this mean I won't get any feedback?

Not necessarily. Depending on how many registrations an class has, the teacher may have time to answer questions from class attendees who have not registered. This will be time dependent.

Do I need to attend coaching live in order to get feedback on my playing or answer my questions?

No, however you must register for the coaching session to receive feedback. When registering, you'll see the option to choose if you will be attending the event live or not and you can submit your video and questions for feedback.

Where do I find the replays?

In the main menu under Classes and Coaching you'll see replay links.

Can I edit my registration after submission?

Yes. After you register, you'll see your registration details on the event page. You'll also see your registration indicated on the main events page. To edit your registration, click the Edit Registration link. This is especially handy if your Youtube video is not quite ready for submission. This will allow you to register, then add your video before the event goes live.

I don't see a place where I can register! How do I register?

Event registration opens up (2) weeks before the start of the event. At that time the register button will become active. You can see the date registration will be available on the event page. Note - some events do not allow registration.

How do I submit my video for coaching feedback?

To submit your video, you need to upload it to Youtube and share the Youtube link when registering for the event. Here is a Youtube tutorial on how this works.

What are Academy credits?

You can use Academy credits to gain access to any lesson in the library or take classes if you do not have access to them with your membership.

You can think of Academy credits as a "Pay As You Go" system which allows you to access and 'cherry-pick' the lessons or classes you want to take.

Depending on your membership level, you may not need to purchase Academy credits to access a class.

Do I need to be an Academy member to purchase or use credits?

No, you do not need to be a member to use or purchase Academy credits. The whole point of credits is now members or non-members can purchase credits to access any lesson or class. This allows you to create a program that works best for you. For example, if you are someone who is not interested in a membership, or you're on a budget, you can purchase Academy credits to access the material without needing a full membership.

With that said, the benefit of a membership is that with a membership you can access all of the lessons, classes or coaching sessions (depending on the membership you purchase).

Can I use Academy credits to gain access to any lesson on the site?

Yes! Each lesson on the site costs (1) credit.

How long do I have access to the lesson (or class) after using a credit to access it?

You have lifetime access to the lesson or class. You can come back to the site and watch the lesson at any time. And. you can download all of the lesson/class resources.

Can I use Academy credits for any class?

Yes, as long as they are classes and not coaching sessions. Watch the video above to see the difference. Academy credits can not be used to attend coaching sessions, but you can use Academy credits to attend any class...even if you're not an Academy member!

Best of all, you can pick and choose your classes. Maybe you use 1 credit to attend a Transcription class to see if it is right for you. You can use credits for any class and you do not have to use them for only one type of class. You're in control!

Can I use Academy credits to attend coaching?

No. You can not use Academy credits to attend coaching sessions. Only members have access to coaching.

Can I get a refund for used or unused Academy credits?

No, once an Academy credit has used you can not get a refund. There are also no refunds for unused credits.

Do Academy credits expire?

No. Your unused Academy credits do not expire.

Do I get access to both the live class and replay when I use an Academy credit?

Yes. When using an Academy credit to take the class, you will get access to the live event (class) as well as the replay and any resources that come with that class.
