Bass lines are a great way to work on technique in the left hand while also focusing on improvisation in the right hand. Learn this important bass line that we will use in the next step for our improvisation accompaniment.
Scales are also an important part of improvisation since they make up our "ingredients" for our improvised lines. Practice each of these scales till you feel comfortable playing them from memory along with a metronome. I'd suggest that you be able to play each scale in eighth notes at 100bpm in the RH.
Creating licks is a great way to create new improvisation ideas. This lesson will show you how to use a rhythm and a scale to make your own licks. Remember - you can (and should) also use the scales you learned in the previous step to create even more licks!
The bass line in Ben's Blues is an advanced bass line which is REALLY good to know. Learn this bass line until you have it memorized and under your fingers. Once you have the bass line down, start adding licks. You can also add most of the licks that you learned in the previous steps over this bass line.
This lesson will give you some great ideas to make your solos "pop" more. Come back to this lesson to learn new techniques to practice.
