Begin your technique journey by learning about proper technique at the piano. This lesson will help you understand how to sit at the piano and utilize my grab technique. I suggest favoriting this lesson so you can refer back to it from time to time since this information will be helpful to you for years to come. I also suggest that you focus heavily on the Jazzedge Practice Curriculum™ to improve your technique!
Our Piano Essentials™ program, along with the Jazzedge Practice Curriculum™ give you all the technique building lessons you would ever need. However, there are many ways to use these techniques. This lesson shows you different approaches on how to practice Piano Essentials and other technical lessons.
Arpeggios are an important technique to learn as they break you out of the "scalar" stepwise motion of scales. Take your time on these exercises and try to apply them to other chord types.
Stride piano is a fun and lively style to learn. It also comes with some challenges! Focus on how to use the pedal in this lesson along with the root-stomp approach. If this style doesn't speak to you, you can skip this lesson!
Even though this is a funk based lesson, the exercises here present some very challenging two-hand techniques. Try playing some (or all) of these exercises to improve your technique.
You'll find some duplicate information in this lesson from the previous steps which will help you to "lock in" the information. Pay close attention to the quartal exercises. These are really great warmups!
The exercises in this lesson are challenging! Take your time with each of them. I'd suggest coming back to this lesson and trying to memorize some of these exercises as a warmup for practice.
